Chronology
of Events:
At
about 9:00 am on Wednesday 18-6-2003, about 30 residents gathered at
LITRAK office situated near the LDP Sunway Toll Plaza to protest about
the following:
The
construction of two flyovers to and from Lebuhraya Bukit Jalil to
Sunway Toll, instead of an underpass as originally approved.
The
construction of two left turn flyovers from Jalan
Puchong/LDP in
front of IOI Mall to and from the Sunway Toll.
The
lack of a right turn flyover from Jalan
Puchong/LDP to Lebuhraya
Bukit Jalil.
The
lack of a interchange in front of IOI Mall as originally approved.
The
lack of consultation and public information on the project by the
Highway Authority.
The
lack of bus stops and other facilities along the Jalan
Puchong/LDP.
The
residents representative Dr. Quek Keng Hong met the Communication
Manager of LITRAK and handed a memorandum containing the above
demands. The residents requested for a meeting.
LITRAK
agreed to a meeting on 26-6-2003 at 2:30 pm at their office.
On
that day, about 25 residents from Puchong area consisting of
representatives from Jalan Tempua and Jalan Merak areas of Bandar
Puchong Jaya and Pusat Bandar Puchong met LITRAK which is represented
by its Communication Manager and Engineer. Y. B. Dato Yap, the MP for
Serdang attended the meeting.
The
residents expressed their concern on the traffic congestion in front
of IOI Mall and question LITRAK for their rationale for not providing
a right turn flyover from Jalan Puchong/LDP to Lebuhraya Bukit Jalil-
the direction where most of traffic are heading (thus causing the
present congestion). Other items as per Item 1 above are also raised.
LITRAK
agreed to provide resident with a traffic study report by 7-7-2003. A
meeting is scheduled on 9-7-2003 to discuss the traffic study
report.
Today
7-7-2003, we still have not received the traffic study report from
LITRAK. A reminder letter was faxed to LITRAK today, cc-ied to Y.B.
Dato' Yap.
We
decided to cancel the meeting with LITRAK on 9-7-2003. Instead, we
will go directly to meet Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia at 10:00 am on
11-7-2003- meeting arranged by Dato Yap.

Story About
Jalan Puchong...
Jalan Puchong
has been around for decades since the British colonial days.
It provides a vital link from the south-west
corner of Kuala Lumpur to the Federal Capital.
In early 1990's, Puchong began its rapid
transformation from an area consisting of ex-mining lands and rubber
estates to the new development hub of Klang Valley.
In late 1990's, LITRAK was given the
concession to build the LDP (Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong).
Under the concession, the stretch of Jalan Puchong in front of IOI
Mall was converted into part of the LDP.
The LDP was completed in 1999.
This was the beginning of a nightmare to many
local residents.
For many years, locals have been
using Jalan Puchong as a service road to go about their daily business-
long before the existence of LDP.
With the construction of the LDP, residents
are inconvenienced by the traffic congestion.
A journey from Bandar Puchong Jaya to Pusat
Bandar Puchong which used to take 5 minutes, is now taking 30 minutes or
more.
In May 2002, the opening of TESCO has turn
the traffic situation from bad to worst.
It is common to see cars getting stuck in a 2
km jam in Jalan Puchong from the intersection with Lebuhraya
Bukit Jalil to TESCO.
The jam is caused by traffic turning
right from Jalan Puchong in front of IOI Mall into Lebuhraya Bukit Jalil.
The above can be seen in the following
pictures:
Jalan Puchong in front of IOI Mall heading towards the Lebuhraya Bukit
Jalil intersection. Taken at 4 pm on a normal day.
Notice the congestion on the two right turn lanes going to Lebuhraya
Bukit Jalil. The left lane going to Sunway Toll is almost empty.
Bird eye view of the same location as above. Taken at 7:30 pm.
Again, notice the congestion on the two right turn lanes going to Lebuhraya
Bukit Jalil. As stated earlier, the left lane going to Sunway Toll is
almost empty.

TESCO Puchong.
Congestion in front of IOI Mall. Notice cars queuing up on the two right
lanes.
Congestion at the U-Turn near the intersection between Jalan Puchong and
Lebuhraya Bukit Jalil. The existing flyover on top.
Lebuhraya Bukit Jalil heading towards Jalan Puchong intersection, where
the originally approved underpass has been replaced by a flyover leading
to Sunway Toll.
Present exit used by residents of Bandar Puchong Jaya (Jalan Tempua Area).
With the construction of the flyover (instead of the underpass), residents
will be denied direct access to Sunway Toll.
